After the withdrawal of water from the natural cycle, private or industrial use produces waste water. Our production processes in Oker produce up to 100 m3/h of polluted wastewater per day. The operational waste water is collected together with the surface water of the site, purified and then returned to the natural water cycle.
The treatment capacity of our central wastewater treatment plant is 400 m3/h and is thus significantly higher than the daily operation would require. The reason for this is that the rainwater from sealed surfaces is also part of the wastewater. In the case of local heavy rainfall events, the amount of water to be treated would increase drastically in a short time. Since the frequency and intensity of such events could increase in the coming years as a result of climate change, these assumptions were included in the planning.
The entire wastewater treatment process is centrally monitored, controlled and operated in an energy-efficient manner. In addition to internal control, the operation of the plant is monitored by the responsible water authority. The plant has been in test operation since October 2018 and will be officially commissioned at the beginning of April 2019.
